 March 1st - 31st, 2017: Month-long event for diving, fun and more!

Welcome to 2017 Dive Challenge, an annual event taking place throughout the month of March hosted by Rockfish Divers.   Our goal is to support some important local causes (Help Fill A Dream Foundation, Our Place Society, Canadian Blood Services and Big Brothers and Sisters of Victoria) while getting divers out diving, engaging the local dive community, cleaning up our local beaches, supporting the local dive industry, and giving away fabulous prizes including the Top Prize: One Year of Unlimited Charters, plus much more from our suppliers and other local community sponsors.

For the 31 days of March we have all sorts of diving, non-diving and charity supporting activities. The more participants get involved, the more points they will earn every day (click here to see all the ways you can accrue points).   Points are associated with each activity, which shall be accrued through the month.   Participants have all sorts of ways to build up points, and all prizes will be awarded at the wrap up party on Sunday, April 2, 2017 (party location will be confirmed shortly), including mystery point prizes, specific non-diver awards, and special mentions (for the winners of individual competitions during Dive Challenge).   Check out the Rockfish Calendar for all the activities scheduled for Dive Challenge and the prized up for grabs very soon!

The charities and organizations we have chosen to support with this event are near and dear to us:
  • Help Fill A Dream Foundation is not only a local charity bringing to life the dreams of kids with life threatening illnesses right here on Vancouver Island, but are also our neighbors just a hope, sick and a couple of jumps from Rockfish Divers.   We are proud to consider them our house charity and all funds raised during Dive Challenge will go to support the dreams of kids with life threatening illnesses right here in our community.
  • This year our friend and roommate Brandon Durieux was struck with AML Leukemia, and is now pursuing advanced treatment at MD Anderson in Texas in hopes of  a possible cure after all options for treatment were exhausted in Canada.   While you can learn more about Bandon's fight against cancer through the GoFundMe page, we are also proud to assist in anyone wishing to dedicate the donation of blood in his name through the Canadian Blood Services.   All you have to do is register online and give the Rockfish Divers ID Number: ROCK022190  at the time of your appointment.
  • Our Place Society is an inner-city community centre serving Greater Victoria’s most vulnerable: working poor, impoverished elderly, mentally and physically challenged, addicted and the homeless. Our Place serves over 1,200 meals per day, and provides hot showers, free clothing, counseling and outreach services, plus 45 transitional housing units. Most importantly, they provide a sense of hope and belonging to our neighbours in need.   As divers we are incredibly fortunate to have the resources we do to, and our food drive throughout Dive Challenge is a small way we can give thanks for everything that we have.
  • Project AWARE Foundation is a growing movement of scuba divers protecting the ocean planet – one dive at a time. Over the past two decades of underwater conservation we’ve learned that divers are true leaders in ocean protection because they see the effects of marine debris and over fishing first hand. While Project AWARE works with programs all over the world, they also sponsor our local beach and underwater clean-up efforts, and all debris collected is documented and sent to them as part of important research on marine debris, which is seriously affecting the ocean.
  • Big Brothers and Sisters of Victoria and Area is the local chapter of Canada's leading child and youth mentoring charity, which facilitates life-changing relationships that inspire and empower children and youth to reach their potential, both as individuals and citizens.   67% of their operating budget is raised through clothing donations.   Stay tuned for the clothing drive events as part of Dive Challenge 2017.

Rockfish Dive Community

One of the most important parts of Rockfish Divers is the community building with us.   It's one thing to train people to dive, and another to provide them with equipment to dive. However, without a dive community, we wouldn't be able to create more opportunities to dive, gather, share, make a difference and expand on the knowledge we have already.   There are things happening through Rockfish every week, so stay tuned to our SCHEDULE and the experiences presented below.
