Freediving



We are very excited to partner with Performance Freediving International (PFI) to introduce Freediving as part of our Rockfish Divers training program.   Check out the upcoming freediving schedule:

This program teaches fundamental Freediving techniques for comfortable enjoyment in the aquatic world to depths of 20m / 66ft. You will also practice Static Apnea to help develop your breath-holding abilities and in-water comfort.

Your PFI Freediver course will cover fundamental topics such as:
  • Essential Safety procedures for Breath-Holding at Freediver Level
  • Proper Breathing Techniques for Freediving and Snorkeling
  • Confined-Water skill development i.e. Static Apnea
  • Open-Water skill development i.e. technique for Deep Diving!
  • Equalization for Deep Diving
  • Equipment for Freediving and Snorkeling
  • The fundamental Physics & Physiology of Freediving—what happens to your body at depths!

Format / Duration: 2-2.5 DAY
This course is taught by highly trained PFI Instructors and includes:
  • Classroom Sessions,
  • 2 Confined-Water Sessions, and
  • 2 Open-Water Sessions.

Prerequisites
  • Swimming or snorkeling experience
  • Good health and fitness
 (contact us for the PFI Medical Form. If you say YES to any questions you may need to get doctors approval to take part in the course.)
  • 12 years of age with guardian permission

What to bring
For this course, each diver is responsible for bringing his or her own equipment:
  • Mask & Snorkel
  • Full Wetsuit (5-7mm for Saanich Inlet where open water dives will take place)
  • Weight-Belt
  • Fins
  • Timing device or Dive Computer

​Freediving Rentals
You can rent equipment for your course or for diving outside your course.  
  • Mask/Snorkel Rental: $12.50/day
  • Scuba Fins (open heel) with wetsuit boots: $20.00/day
  • Long-blade Freediving Fins: $35.00/day, does not include neoprene socks or fin keepers.
  • Wetsuit (scuba suit - 5mm for pool, 7mm for ocean): $25.00/day
  • Weight belt: $7.50/day  (nylon webbed belt) - we sell rubber belts
  • Computer: $17.50/day
  • Hood or Gloves: $7.50 ea /day
​For the course, you will need rentals for 2 full days.  Rentals are normally half price for the second day. We offer a course package for $100 with scuba fins, or $125 with freediving fins.
